An update about the SOLSTICE 2020 Benefit Auction

Greetings from Oakwood Arts! All of us at OA hope you and your loved ones are doing well during this challenging time. Although we are not able to see you in person, please know that we are all here for you and for our community.
As many of you know, usually this time of year OA's staff, board, and volunteers are working hard in preparation for our annual SOLSTICE summer benefit auction. SOLSTICE is Oakwood Arts’ summer auction and our most important annual fundraising effort. In fact, our revenue from this event contributes to over twenty-five percent of OA’s annual operating budget, allowing us to provide free and low-cost programs to our students, families, and community, and directly support dozens of emerging and established artists.
We're going virtual: Save the Date!
In order to prioritize the safety of our staff, artists, mentors, students, and donors, we have made the difficult decision not to hold the event in person this year. We are, however, excited to share with you that we will be holding a virtual SOLSTICE on Saturday, June 20, preceded by a week of online bidding and engaging mini-events beginning Monday, June 15.
Our mission to prioritize and support artists and our community remains the same, and our SOLSTICE week will include online bidding for live and silent auction items, as well as new interactive events designed to help connect all of us and bring a taste of SOLSTICE to a broader community.

What a virtual SOLSTICE looks like…
This year’s online SOLSTICE is a first for us. In addition to a live virtual auction, our signature raffle for artist curated boxes, and other live events on Saturday, June 20, SOLSTICE 2020 will feature a week of online bidding, a robust professional catalogue, and mini-events that spotlight local artists and OA programs. While we wish we could see all of you in person, we are excited to take on this new challenge and to think outside the “gallery” to bring you a new kind of SOLSTICE experience. Take a look below at some of the events we are planning.

|
-
Interactive online events will include video presentations about OA, sharing the work and voices of our students, and of course bidding and the raffle drawing of our signature curated artist boxes.
-
A more robust catalogue that not only highlights participating artists and their work but also serves as a record of this moment in time with artist spotlights, essays, partner-related programming, and OA activity kits!
-
Special prix fixe menus at several local restaurants that will be inspired by SOLSTICE 2020 works of their choice.
-
Opportunity purchase raffle tickets to our signature artist-curated boxes. Participating artists are asked to fill and customize these 12x12x12 wooden boxes with any objects of their choosing. To see last years artists click here.
-
Art activity prompts created by past and present SOLSTICE artists and posted daily during auction week.
-
A digital dance party by SOLSTICE DJ Mike Metic and other guest DJs throughout the week.
-
A special live online bidding event to celebrate the culmination of the auction on Saturday, June 20.
