Oakwood Arts Park is an outdoor space that provides a COVID-safe gathering place for students and neighbors. The Oakwood Arts Park is open from 9 am to sundown daily and is available for local students, parents, and residents. With plenty of benches and picnic tables, free access to reliable WiFi and a community fridge the Oakwood Arts Park is a perfect spot to do work outdoors or simply visit with neighbors in a socially-distanced environment.

The Park also includes Giving Libraries stocked with free school supplies, books, PPE (masks and hand sanitizer), and Oakwood Art Kits that are replaced every two weeks with new projects. We have already used the Oakwood Art Park to host outdoor concerts, on-site public art installations, and student programs. With warmer weather approaching, the Park will be used as a site for new programs, including a collaboration with Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, the OA Spring and Summer Camps, and public film screenings.

Oakwood Arts has held five events at the park since it opened in late October 2020 including Fall Community Concert with the Virginia Opera, a Halloween Costume Giveaway, an InLight 2020 exhibition by Oakwood Arts Artist in Residence Stephanie Woods, a workday led by Stephanie Woods with Blue Sky Fund’s Outdoor Leadership group collaboratively designing and painting “Intuitive Vessels” and more.

Huge thank you to all the volunteers that came out to 3511 P St. to help us build our outdoor virtual learning park. And also big thank you to Richmond Community ToolBank who helped supply the materials to build the tables benches and lending libraries!
