SOLSTICE 2019 RAFFLE: Artist-Curated Boxes
Oakwood Arts invited renowned artists Rashid Johnson and Hank Willis Thomas to each curate the contents of a customized box for supporters of Oakwood Arts that were raffled off and revealed at SOLSTICE 2019. Congratulations to the lucky winners!

Rashid Johnson's multimedia, interdisciplinary artistic practice engages with and extends "post-black" conceptual art. In February of this year, he was named one of the most influential African-American artists working today by Artsy. Viewers have likely seen Rashid Johnson's work at the VCU ICA, where his site-specific "Monument" installation continues to occupy the main gallery through June 19. Rashid's carefully curated box is to be raffled off and announced at SOLSTICE 2019.

Hank Willis Thomas is a conceptual artist whose work examines the connections between black culture, and commodity culture. Thomas is the recipient of a Guggenheim, Rockefeller, and AGO fellowships (among others), has had a solo show at the Chrysler Museum in recent years, and the first major survey of his work will open at the Portland Museum of Art in fall of 2019. Hank's carefully curated box is to be raffled off and announced at SOLSTICE 2019.
