PROGRAMS NEWS
Production Careers Program with A.C.E
Fall 2020: Virtual after-school program with Armstrong High School

Each week this fall, Armstrong students had the opportunity to meet virtually with creative professionals in the film and TV industry through our Production Careers program. Students were able to go behind the scenes with each week's guests to learn about their fields and how they got their start in the industry. Our talented guest speakers have included Key Hairstylist Nikki Tucker, Emmy Award-winning Costume Designer Amy Harrell, Independent Costume Designer Nia Banks, Key Rigging Grip Kenny Morton, Andy Edmunds Director of the VA Film Office, Senior Producer Sly Tucker of Tilt Creative Studios, Independent Filmmaker Jerome “Sho Flacco” Berry and our own Chip Jackson of the FAMM project! Each week, our guests provided our participants with a better understanding of what it takes to succeed in creative industries, inspiring our teens to explore what motivates them!
Introducing Chip Jackson
OA's new Director of Workforce Innovation
Tristan “Chip" Jackson is a nationally-recognized photographer, videographer, program director, and promoter from Newport News, VA. In 2006, Chip and his friends founded No Days Off, a video production team. In 2016, Chip co-founded a workshop-style program FAMM (Future Actors & Media Makers) designed to teach local young people usable trades and skill sets while encouraging and helping them develop their unique creative voices and perspectives through film and photography. As OA's Director of Workforce Innovation, Chip is conceptualizing and implementing an expanded workforce development in creative industries program for high-school students and recent graduates. Chip is also overseeing the integration of FAMM (now Future Artists & Media Makers) into OA’s fold.
3511 P STREET
The construction at our future (and original) home at 3511 P Street is coming along and we are excited to see the progress. We installed temporary outlets on the outside of the building to better serve our community. Window restoration and framing of the new ADA bathrooms are underway. We anticipate our plumbing, electrical, and HVAC to be halfway done by the new year!
