PHOTO MONDAY CLUB

Developing: An Exceptional Eye

Students will sharpen & enhance their skill-set & knowledge of photography by experimenting with different lighting, angles, lenses and equipment. The main focus is for students to leave the program learning more about the camera, photo composition, and gain self confidence all in one without any pressures !

Goals:

  • Empower youth to express their vision and voice through photography and experimentation while sharpening their skills.

  • Enable youth to build life skills such as self-confidence, perseverance, and problem-solving by strengthening their knowledge of lighting, angles, lenses and equipment

  •  Encourage the youth to connect with the community via field trips to historical, cultural, college, urban/rural and other settings.

  • Encourage youth to work together in teams.

  • Establish mentoring relationships with youth

SESSION 5

The goal for this session was for students to get a demonstration on how to execute a portrait photo session using natural light (KT) @six_ix speedlight flash (Tricia) @lunasolistophotography , and strobes with our guest instructor @20vsn_image (Jermaine). Our Students worked with a mentor and model using natural light, strobe lighting and external flash or speedlight to execute their own portrait photoshoot. We are so proud of the creativity our students displayed attempting to get “The shot” as we all enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Maymont Park @maymont_rva

Huge thank you to all of our models and to our guest instructor Jermaine for joining our group!

Session 4

Our last Photo Monday resumed with a spectacular guest Emily White @_slowmedown a tintype portrait photographer based in RVA. Emily currently operates a mobile photo studio & darkroom and captures forever heirlooms for many while also teaching darkroom classes in the community of Richmond. Our students got a closer look into the process of taking & developing tintypes and posed for a class photo that will last at OA forever. We'd like to thank Emily for giving us an inside look at collodion wet plate photography! View more of Emily's work at www.emwhitephoto.com

SESSION 3

Students from our Photo Monday program got their first introduction to film photography with a visit to our friends at @studiotwothree ! We toured the dark room and got hands on experience with loading, focusing & photographing with SLR’s led by OA’s founder Shannon Castleman with assistance from OA instructors Tricia @lunasolistophotography & KT @six_ix

We are so thankful for our program intern Liv @clivvyt for capturing these great BTS shots of the session

SESSION 2

Our PHOTO MONDAY Crew took their first field trip of the season -led by OA lead mentor @mjacks1 & OA intern Liv Taylor. They had a great time during a private tour of the Byrd theatre. They learned about the historical building’s architecture, lighting, & even got to visit the projection room. They wrapped up the excursion with a brief photo walk around Carytown where our crew were given the assignment to take photos that related to three terms they picked out of a grab bag. We are so happy to get to hang with our Photo Monday Crew again.

SESSION 1

Photo Monday’s has officially begun with lead instructors Tricia Evangelisto @lunasolistophotography & KT Sampson @six_ix !!

Yesterday we kicked off the program by covering foundational knowledge of the art & science of photography. Take a look at some great instax photos by our students as they started their Photographic Journals answering this weeks prompt “Who are you?”

We are so excited to see everyone in person this year & are looking forward to next weeks tour of the Byrd Theater @thebyrdrva !
