SAY THEIR NAMES QUILT

What an incredible day we had coming together at Marcus David Peters Circle making cyanotypes for a collaborative quilt. Members of our Richmond community made cyanotype squares on which they wrote messages of solidarity, hope, and strength, among other things they wanted to express. The squares were then sewn together by Sam Page for a quilt in a traditional Tree of Paradise style representing the passage of life.

We are proud to see Sam Page, Instructor in Residence, getting recognition in Washington Post for their community quilt project honoring those whose lives have been cut short. Joshua Thornton, OA Graphic Design Intern, has also played a significant role in bringing this project to life —brainstorming ideas and sourcing images. We are so lucky and grateful that these two are a part of the Oakwood Arts team."
