F.A.M.M. PROJECT

FUTURE ARTISTS AND MEDIA MAKERS

HISTORY OF F.A.M.M. Project

The F.A.M.M. Project was founded in 2016 by Tristan “Chip” Jackson and a group of motivated videographers and producers who had been engaged in grassroots video production for more than ten years. Chip and FAMM’s Co-Founder the late Charles “Max” Sharpe, recognized that street video production was attractive to youth, yet was having negative impacts in their communities by promoting violence and crime. They joined together to turn the tables for their own lives and others to become positive change-makers by creating a workshop-style program that aimed to teach participants usable trades and skillsets in the field of film & media.

In 2020, Oakwood Arts hired Tristan “Chip” Jackson as our new Director of Workforce Innovation, to expand and grow our program offerings for teens and young adults. Chip has led the expansion of our workforce development in creative industries program for high-school students and recent graduates, beginning with bringing Chip’s Future Artists and Media Makers (FAMM) project--operating in Newport News since 2016--into OA’s fold. FAMM will prepare students to move into entry-level positions in the film industry and other creative fields through classes, resources, and an individualized mentorship approach that sets students up to succeed in their chosen career paths.
