Beyond the Lens: Jackson Ward

Over the course of one week, participants will have the opportunity to become contemporary history makers while exploring the rich history of Jackson Ward through digital photography. Students will develop their own projects using inspiration from the BHMVA’s collection, under the guidance of program mentors, local photographers and museum professionals. Participants will explore the work of influential black photographers, learn about the fundamentals of photography using DSLR cameras, practice basic editing techniques using Adobe Photoshop, and will be introduced to several careers related to photography.

Museum Careers Exploratory Workshop

July 29th - August 2nd
10:00am - 12:30pm
Ages: Rising 8th grade - high school students
All skill levels

APPLICATIONS DUE - JULY 1, 2019
Space is limited

During this half day week-long program, teens will learn the ins and outs of exhibition planning, design, and curation through field trips to various exhibitions around the city. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about museum careers directly from industry professionals in the field. In conjunction with the summer photography program at the Black History Museum, participants will use the skills they have learned during the week, to assist in planning and curating an exhibit of the students photographic works.
